This is a blog documenting my painting exercises. These are very quick sketches 15-60 min for educational purposes only. Constructive criticism very welcome
This one works really nicely, the sun has great intensity without making the foreground to dark or silhouetted. Crit: I know this maybe a step to soon but having texture on the foreground would pull it forward adding to the perspective. This can be achieved simply with a smaller brush or a textured brush. Detail always makes things look closer and is a great tool for building up perspective in landscapes that don't have architectural elements to give the perspective cues. Another tools is Sfumato - the tinting of far away objects to the atmospheric colour erived from the sky or sun.
There was quite a lot of detail on the reference photo, like a few bushes on the foreground and a whole town bt the harbour. At which point would you consider going into painting details?
